 Use of First person point of view in «Raymond’s Run» and «Cathedral» Essay

The authors of " Raymond's Run" and " Cathedral", both make use of a first person perspective in their short stories. In " Raymond's Run", by Toni Genievre Bambara, the first person standpoint shows how the narrator can be dealing with the situations around her and maturing along the way. In " Cathedral", by Raymond Carver, the reader can see the enhancements made on the narrator's understanding of the blind man through distinct situations that occurs throughout the history. Both creators have related purposes at heart when they had been writing the story, they the two wanted to demonstrate growth and transition from the narrators. The use of the first person viewpoint makes it easier for the readers to find the thoughts and emotions that are being experienced by narrator, that may give us a better insight into their particular thinking and actions.

In " Raymond's Run", the narrator of the story can be Hazel, and the whole account is seen through her eyes. In the beginning in the story, you finds out that Hazel looks after her older brother with a mental disorder. The lady does not brain looking after her brother, and she is likewise really protecting of him because various people like to make fun of him and this individual also gets himself struggling. Hazel's protectiveness of her brother is seen when Hazel says, " If anybody has anything to say to Raymond, anything about his big head, they have to come by me".
